The United Nations has recognized India’s Uddin Singhal as the Youth Champion of the year 2020, with 17 advocates who have played a significant role in efforts to achieve the sustainable development goals. These young champions selected for 2020 have been selected from different regions of the world and are aged between 18 and 29 years. These young champions are announced by the United Nations every two years.

Udit Singhal is the founder of Glass2Sand in India. Under this, they make people aware about the Zero West Ecosystem. He started it in Delhi with such glass bottles which were not being used for a long time. Garbage pickers were also not carried by them, due to which they used to stay in one place for a long time and harm the environment. They were mostly thrown in the plains where they were not decomposted for many years.

Apart from India’s rise, the United Nations has selected 16 other people under the Youth Champions, Pakistan, Australia, Bangladesh, Brazil, Bulgaria, China, Colombia, Egypt, India, Ireland, Liberia, Nigeria, Peru, Senegal, Turkey, People from Uganda and America are also included. All these people are looking for creative solutions to meet the challenges, as well as inspire the younger generation to create a better future for all. These people represent the diverse young voices of every region of the world for the UN’s Sustainable Development Goal.

Jayathama Vikramanayake, United Nations Secretary-General for Youth Affairs, Special Envoy of Antonio Guterres, says that in this unprecedented phase in front of the world, the 2020 Youth Champion is a shining example of how youth can create a sustainable and inclusive future for all. Showing the way to He said that despite being badly affected by the Kovid-19 epidemic, youth around the world are showing unlimited tolerance, strength, resource utilization and leadership towards finding creative solutions and achieving goals for better recovery.

Uddin launched Glass2Sand on the occasion of World Environment Day 2019. At that time, he was only 17 years old. For this project, the High Commissioner of India in New Zealand provided him special financial assistance. Under this, he launched a campaign whose slogan was ‘Drink Responsibly, Dispose Responsibly’. He also got cooperation of about 10 diplomatic missions with New Zealand. Gradually, more than 65 volunteers joined this campaign. Together they collected thousands of useless glass bottles lying in various places of Delhi. About 5000 kg silica sand was prepared from them. Which was further used.
